Now, our ladies range are Short handle cricket bats so they are designed for adults but the weight is designed to be between 2lb 3oz to 2lb 6oz but this is determined by the different types of bat styles.

• Characteristics: No concaving; maximum willow for power and weight.

• Drawback: slightly heavier than other profiles, which might not suit all women or girls.

2. Semi-Concaved

3. Concaved

• Characteristics: Heavily scooped back to reduce weight significantly.

Each of the above bat shapes provides a different feel in the pick up and stance and depending on your desired cricket bat weight, the shape will follow.  For example;  if you are looking for a full profile cricket bat that is 2lb 3oz it will be difficult to achieve this, to achieve this there will be some concaving.

Each of the above comes down to personal choice and your preference, but also importantly budget.

The handle affects how the bat feels and performs, there is no secret there.

The slight downside of the round handle is it can rotate in your hand.

This handle is great if you are a slightly bottom-handed batter as the increase width at the bottom of the handle usually means a reduced bottom handed grip, so you are relying more on your top hand.

On a personal note, this is the handle type I prefer because I'm more of a bottom handed batter (slogger).

3. Oval Handle

• Characteristics: Provides a firmer grip and helps align the top hand correctly.
• Best For: Players focused on control and technical precision.

This is quite a rare handle type, you don't see many people with them and I very rarely see them coming through the workshop for repairs.  But, they certainly have a place in the market and are something to consider.

Different Grades of Willow

Now, we move on to the different grades of willow available.  The quality of the willow used in cricket bats significantly impacts performance, durability, longevity and less importantly, aesthetics.

1. Players Grade

• Characteristics: Finest Grade 1+ English willow; top-notch performance, lightest pick-up, and stunning grain structure.
• Best For: Elite players and professionals.
• Cost:  The most expensive willow

2. Grade 1

• Characteristics: High-quality English willow; excellent grain structure with minor cosmetic blemishes.
• Best For: Advanced players seeking performance without breaking the bank.
• Cost: Less expensive than the players grade but a perfect choice of willow if you are a serious cricketer.

3. Grade 2

• Characteristics: Reliable English willow; slightly wider grains and more cosmetic blemishes.
• Best For: Intermediate players and those looking for value.
• Cost: Perfect price range for all cricketers and a Grade 2 will last longer than a grade 1.

There is no getting away from it, the price of cricket bats are expensive and sadly they are always increasing.  If budget was no option then players grade always win, however, budget is always obstacle so it comes down to the level they are playing and how the look after the bat.

For example, my daughter (12) plays a good standard for her age, but she doesn't look after he bat properly, so she gets a Grade 2 even though I have access to some of the best willow around, I can't justify making her a bat out of anything higher than a grade 2, desperate the constant protests.
